Guilty Until Proven Innocent

A student’s university ID card was found near my office today, and I figured I would be the kind soul to turn it in to the university police department. I walked it out of my way to the police headquarters, and to my disbelief, the dispatch woman treated me as if I had witnessed something suspicious. She made me provide my ID card and a campus phone number to prove that I was a member of the university.

“Look ma’am, I told you I found this on the ground.  Sorry for trying to be helpful!”
